Kris Statlander: There Were Talks About TBS Title Win Months Before My Return

 BY: RYAN

Kris Statlander knew months ahead that there were plans for her to become the new TBS Champion.

AEW TBS Champion Kris Statlander was a recent guest on Haus of Wrestling to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the process behind her defeating Jade Cargill for the title, Statlander revealed that the idea behind her winning the title had been planned for months.

“There was talks about it a few months before I fully returned,” Kris Statlander revealed. “But I always never believe that things are gonna happen until I walk out there and it happens. So even the night before I was like, ‘We’ll see if this happens because things can change.’ And that’s how it is, and it wasn’t that I don’t trust people. It’s just that things happen so much.

“Things need to be changed, and you can never really like — it’s more just you don’t want to set yourself up for disappointment. There wasn’t anything like, ‘Oh, we’re not sure if you’re the one that’s going to do it.’ It was more just like, we’ll see what the definitive plans are when we get there.

“But I do remember when I first heard the idea, I was kind of like, ‘Okay, if that’s what you want.’ It was a very, very cool thing to know that a lot of people trusted me to be that one. And I just hope that in that moment that I did return and that everything I continued to do while I have the title lives up to and exceeds expectations.”

When it was brought up that Statlander’s return to Double or Nothing to defeat Jade Cargill was a cool surprise, Statlander said she thinks some people expected her to appear, but no one was expecting an actual match.

“I feel like people expected me to show up. I don’t think people expected the match to happen that day,” Kris Statlander said. “Because I did see a lot of speculation about if I was going to be there or not and people assuming that I was going to show up at least, but I don’t think anyone predicted that the match was going to happen, so I’m glad that we were able to keep that part kind of a surprise as well.”
